The local patrol was near the town centre on Friday 12 July 2024 when they saw three men who were known to them.

As the officers went to approach the trio, they all ran from the area. The officers gave chase on foot and one man was detained near Chatham Bus Station and a machete was seized. The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of knife offences.

Following enquiries an 18-year-old man from Gillingham, was charged with possession of a bladed object in a public place.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 13 July 2024 where he was bailed with conditions. He is due back at the court on Thursday 10 October.
