Investigators from the Medway Victim Based Crime Team have continued to charge suspected shoplifters in the fight against retail crime.

On Wednesday 10 July 2024, medication was reported stolen from behind a counter at Boots the Chemist in The Pentagon Centre, Chatham. A suspect was arrested by local officers two days later. A man aged 41 from Sittingbourne was later charged with theft.

A further suspect was arrested on Friday 12 July in connection with the theft of hair and beauty products from Poundstretcher in Gillingham High Street. The man aged 52, of no fixed address, was also charged with theft.

On the same day, local neighbourhood officers detained a man in Chatham after shops were allegedly targeted in the town centre. A man aged 46 from Chatham was charged with two thefts.

They all appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 13 July.

All were remanded in custody with the man aged 41 due back at the court on 19 July. The suspect aged 52 is due at the court on 8 October, and the 41-year-old due to return to the court on 10 October.
