Residents of St Martin’s Road are advised to expect an ongoing police presence in the area

A woman who was arrested on Thursday 11 July 2024, after human remains were located at a property in the city has been charged with murder following enquiries into the whereabouts of a missing person from Canterbury.

Whilst enquiries to establish the identity of the deceased are ongoing, the family of a missing 65-year-old man, have been informed. A man named as Jeremy Rickards had been reported missing on Friday 5 July having not been seen since the beginning of June.

On Saturday 13 July, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised a charge of murder against Maureen Rickards, of St Martin’s Road, Canterbury. The 50-year-old woman has been remanded in custody to appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court on Monday 15 July.

An investigation is being carried out by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate and residents of St Martin’s Road are advised to expect an ongoing police presence in the area.
