Kent Police was contacted on Wednesday 10 July 2024 following a report that a car containing a man’s ashes had been broken into in Sea Street, Whitstable overnight between Tuesday 9 July and the following day.

Police are appealing to recover a backpack in the vehicle which is believed to contain a man’s ashes.

Cash, sunglasses, keys and the backpack were stolen. The backpack, which is described as orange and turquoise, is reported to contain a tube with a woodland scene on it, which contains a man’s ashes.

Anyone with information, or who has seen the backpack or the tube, is urged to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 46/114624/24. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or complete their online form.

The appeal follows advice given to motorists in the Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay areas concerning thefts.
