Shortly before 11pm on Sunday 30 June 2024, Kent Police was called to New Rents in Ashford, to a report that a man and a woman had been assaulted. They sustained injuries and the man was taken to a local hospital for treatment and on Tuesday 2 July, officers from east Kent CID arrested two men.

A charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent was authorised against a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old man both from the town . The older man has also been charged with one count of assault by beating.

Both men appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 3 July where they were remanded in custody. The case is next due to be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 5 August.
