Between Tuesday 12 March and Tuesday 21 May 2024, stores in Sittingbourne and Sheerness reported bulk thefts from their premises valued at more than £1,100.

Businesses targeted included Asda, Superdrug, Peacocks and Poundland. Amongst the property allegedly stolen were medicinal products, cosmetics, clothing, cleaning items and confectionary. Neighbourhood officers investigated the incidents and examined available CCTV footage.

On Tuesday 27 May, a local constable saw a suspect enter an address in Sittingbourne and he was detained. The man who is from Sittingbourne was later charged by investigators from the Swale Victim Based Crime Team, with eight counts of theft.

A 52-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded to a hearing at the same court on Wednesday 12 June.
