A woman from Hampshire suspected of shoplifting in Swale is to appear in court charged with multiple counts of theft and assault.
Between Monday 16 October 2022 and Tuesday 7 May 2024, seven thefts were reported at supermarkets in Faversham. Tesco, Aldi and the Co-op were allegedly targeted with food, coffee and laundry products being stolen. The total value of the items exceeded £500 and in two cases, employees at the businesses were reportedly assaulted.
Each incident was investigated and, after CCTV footage was examined by local police, enquiries were undertaken to locate a suspect.
On Sunday 12 May, a woman from Southsea, Hampshire was arrested and later charged by investigators from the Swale Victim Based Crime Team, with seven thefts and two assaults. She was also charged with criminal damage to property in one of the shops. The 33-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 14 May.
