The campaign to prevent retail crime at Maidstone shops has continued with charges for a suspected thief who allegedly stole alcohol valued at almost £200 from Tesco in Farleigh Hill on 26 February 2024 and in a second incident, at Tesco in Tonbridge Road staff members told Kent Police that a large quantity of Easter eggs had been stolen on Sunday 17 March.

A further theft was alleged at Poundland in Week Street on Thursday 21 March, after a customer left the premises without paying for assortment of food and confectionary items.

Investigations were completed into each incident including the examination of CCTV footage and on Friday 10 May, a 40-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested in Lower Stone Street. He was later charged with three counts of theft and remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 11 May.
