Swale Police officers have continued the campaign to combat retail crime with the arrest of two men suspected of multiple thefts.
Between Sunday 31 March and Monday 22 April 2024, staff at a supermarket in Sheerness High Street reported a total of 30 thefts. Items targeted included crates or bottles of alcohol, meat and other food items valued at £332.
An investigation into the incidents included the examination of CCTV footage and on Tuesday 23 April, constables completing enquiries at an address near the High Street detained a suspect. Shortly after, a further arrest was made in Rose Street.
A man aged 39 and from Sheerness was charged by officers from the Swale Victim Based Crime Team with 26 counts of theft. Later a 37-year-old man from the same address, was charged with eight shoplifting offences.
Both men were remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 24 April.
