A suspected robber has appeared in court after an 89-year-old man was assaulted in Chatham. The pensioner reported his phone had been stolen during the incident in Chatham town centre, at around 4.30pm on Friday 12 April 2024.

A woman aged 41 was arrested later the same day and taken into custody. Officers also seized a quantity of cannabis and crack cocaine. The woman from the town, was charged with robbery, possession of crack cocaine and possession of cannabis.  She was additionally charged with theft, racially aggravated assault and assault by beating in connection with a separate incident inside a Chatham shop, on the same day she was arrested.  

She appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 15 April and was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 13 May.
