Kent Police was called at around 11.30pm on Friday 15 March 2024 to a suspected cannabis cultivation at a rural industrial site in Bethersden Road, Smarden, where a fire had also been reported.

Police attended and Kent Fire and Rescue Service, put out the fire and made the area safe. Police seized around 300 cannabis plants and associated growing equipment from the site.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire and to identify those behind the cannabis cultivation.
