During a countywide initiative to curb illegal and antisocial vehicle use, Police in Kent conducted arrests and seized vehicles. Between March 15 and March 17, 2024, two operations were carried out, with officers specifically deployed to address antisocial behaviour related to vehicles.

Recent reports of motorists speeding, endangering other road users and causing excessive noise with cars, saw dedicated patrols put in place to carry out enforcement. During the proactive operation more than 50 vehicles were stopped and their drivers spoken to – these included a group of motorcyclists seen entering Bluewater at high speed.
Of those spoken to 19 Traffic Offence Reports were issued for a range of offences which included speeding, careless driving and failing to wear a seatbelt. Five vehicles that were either uninsured or untaxed, were seized, and two people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs. Of those arrested, one person has since been charged.
A 19-year-old man from Sevenoaks, was charged with drink driving. He was bailed to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 April.
Section 34 dispersal orders were put in place in specified areas across Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Medway, which included Medway City Estate, Medway Valley Leisure Park and North Farm industrial estate. This followed reports of nuisance vehicles in the area. The orders gave officers additional powers to direct those responsible for anti-social behaviour to leave the area and risk arrest if they returned.
Superintendent Nick Sparkes said:
‘This weekend’s activity was in response to concerns raised by residents and local stakeholders, and we are committed to ensuring people can enjoy their community without being disturbed by those intent on using vehicles antisocially.
‘During this weekend, officers were able to talk to lots of motorists who were supportive and positive about the police initiative, and those who had committed offences were dealt with robustly and accordingly.’

Off-road vehicles targeted in Tonbridge
Over the weekend officers from Tonbridge’ Community Safety Unit patrolled West Peckham, Mereworth, Plaxtol, Trench and Hadlow following concerns raised by residents.
Those living in the area had reported to police that off-road motorbikes, quad bikes and other vehicles were being used antisocially. Police used both marked and unmarked police vehicles and spoke to motorists in the area. Four vehicles were seized, one of which had been stolen.Nine vehicles, including four motorbikes and one e-scooter, were also stopped and one person was issued a Community Resolution Order for possession of cannabis.
District Commander for Tonbridge and Malling, Chief Inspector Stuart Paul said:
‘Residents have a right to live peacefully and without fear and we understand the detrimental impact this behaviour can have on a community.
‘We are dedicated to ensuring those using vehicles illegally are held accountable and prevented from doing so. We have dedicated beat officers who act as a single point of contact and anyone with future concerns can raise these directly with us and we will ensure action is taken.’
