The Fishermen’s Memorial Bench, located on the beach west of Whitstable Harbour, was unveiled last week on Thursday 14 March).

The splendid carved bench was funded by Whitstable Harbour Board and made by local craftsman Will Glanfield. Memorial plaques for local fishermen John Gilson and Derrick West have already been incorporated on the bench.

The Fishermen’s Mission is the only national charity that works solely to support fishermen and their families and for 140 years, they have been supporting active and former fishermen. The Whitstable Fishermen’s Association said they are grateful for the ongoing support of the Whitstable Harbour Board and the bench provides a fitting tribute to past fishermen, who play such an important part in Whitstable Harbour’s heritage.
