Last year’s award winning mural by Curtis Hylton Image: Ashford BC

Ashford Borough Council has announced a new mural will be coming to Bank Street in the town centre this March, adding to the growing portfolio of exciting street art.

Last year saw the launch of Ashford’s first Mural Festival, Ashford Unframed, which saw an eighteen-stop contemporary street art trail, curated by Accent & The London Mural Company, transform many blank walls into high quality mural paintings and bespoke integrated artwork.

Artists involved in the project included home-grown global sensation Mr Doodle, Alex Chinneck, Danielle Williamson (aka Tiny Beagle) and students from EKC Ashford College, amongst many others. The mural that particularly resonated with many residents was Flamboyant Fawn by Curtis Hylton, on the side of Bucksford Law on Bank Street, which depicts a proud young stag standing in brushland amidst autumnal ferns, curiously watching a nearby pheasant.

Not only did this mural create quite a buzz on social media, but it was nominated and won, Best Street Art in March 2023 by the world’s leading street art platform, Street Art Cities. The piece was also voted into the top 20 works of street art for the whole of 2023 by the platform!

The new mural will be unveiled in full via the Ashford Unframed and Love Ashford platforms – but you can head into town whilst Hylton is on-site to see the progress of the exciting new artwork.
