Patrol officers pursuing a suspect in Maidstone have recovered jewellery and cash suspected to have been stolen in a burglary. The items were seized by police after a foot chase through the town on Saturday 24 February.

Constables had been patrolling Union Street when at around 8.20pm they were alerted to suspicious behaviour nearby. They approached two people who then ran from the scene. One of them, a 16-year-old boy, was detained in Church Street and when searched items of jewellery were found, as well as cash including Nepalese rupees.

Enquiries linked the items to a burglary which happened earlier the same evening, at an address near Alkham Road.

A second suspect, aged 18, was also stopped and arrested and both were taken into custody. They have since been bailed, pending further enquiries, to return to a police station on 8 May.
