Witnesses and dashcam footage is being sought after a teenage girl died and a boy suffered serious injuries following a crash in which a vehicle overturned as it reportedly hit a road barrier on the A249 near Maidstone.

The incident happened at around 6.45pm on Saturday 24 February, report police, and involved a white Toyota Hilux which had been travelling towards Sittingbourne. No other vehicles were involved.

Patrols rushed to the incident along with ambulance and fire crews, but a 16-year-old girl died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed. A boy, believed to be 15, was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.

A 17-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with minor injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken into custody.

Enquiries are being led by Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) and officers are urging drivers with dashcams to check for any important footage. They also want to speak to anyone who saw collision, or the Toyota in the moments leading up to it.
