A suspect has been remanded in custody following allegations he repeatedly stamped on a man’s head in Maidstone.

A man from Nottingham was arrested after CCTV operators alerted police to a violent disturbance in Week Street in which the victim had fallen to the floor after being punched shortly after 1am on Tuesday 13 February 2024.

It is alleged the man was then kicked and punched, before the suspect jumped and stamped on his head with both feet.

Officers on the scene detained the suspect at 1.10am and he was taken into custody.

The 34-year-old from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottingham was later charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on the following day. He was remanded in custody. His next hearing will be at Maidstone Crown Court on 11 March.

The victim, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
