Neighbourhood police officers arrested a man suspected of using a stolen bank card in Tonbridge following an incident on the evening of Thursday 25 January 2024, when the victim reported his car had been broken into whilst parked in Avebury Avenue.

The man also informed Kent Police a wallet had been taken from the vehicle’s glove box and a bank card was later used to make fraudulent purchases at shops in the town centre.

Police visited three businesses where items valued at more than £100 had been obtained and on Sunday 29 January, a suspect was located and arrested together. A quantity of cannabis was also seized.

A man from Tonbridge was later charged by investigators from the town’s Victim Based Crime Team with three counts of fraud, dishonestly handling stolen property and possession of cannabis. The 31-year-old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 1 February.
