Cocaine has been seized by officers in Chatham after suspicious activity was spotted on Friday 26 January 2024, when constables from Kent Police’s Proactive Targeting Team were on patrol and their attention was drawn to a damaged Vauxhall Insignia travelling along New Road. The vehicle stopped and officers approached and spoke to the occupants.

A search under the Misuse of Drugs Act was completed and around 20 suspected class A drug deals were seized along with cash and a mobile phone. A man and a woman were arrested and taken into custody. A man from Thamesmead, Greater London was later charged by investigators from North Kent CID with possession of cocaine with intent to supply and possession of heroin with intent to supply.

The 30-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 31 January. He was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 26 February. The woman who was also detained was bailed to return to the police station, pending further investigation.
