A suspect is to appear in court charged with stealing more than £2,000 worth of goods from Thanet shops.
On Tuesday 19 December 2023, Margate’s neighbourhood officers were informed by a shop in the High Street that a large selection of cosmetics and other items, valued at £1,982, had been put into a basket and taken from the premises without the person making any attempt to pay for them.
The officers checked out shop’s CCTV, and identified a possible suspect.
Further enquiries into the incident led to officers making an arrest on Thursday 21 December while on foot patrol in The Centre near the High Street in Margate.
A man was charged with two counts of shoplifting, the second charge relating to a report of between £30-£50 worth of meat stolen from the Co-op in Broadstairs on Wednesday 29 November. The 29-year-old, of no fixed address, was due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Friday 22 December.
