Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was allegedly threatened in Sittingbourne High Street by a suspected robber claiming to be ‘armed’.

The incident occurred near the junction with Station Road, between 6.30 and 6.50am on Saturday 16 December 2023.

According to reports, the suspect demanded the victim, who is in his 60s, to take out money from an ATM. However it’s understood the suspect fled the scene with some loose change from the victim, without showing any weapon.

DC Stuart Drakeley of North Division CID said:

‘We have obtained CCTV footage that shows several people in the vicinity of the attempted robbery.

‘The suspect failed to force the victim to use the ATM, but his intimidating actions and words would have been noticeable to anyone nearby.’

The suspect is described as a man in his 40s, with long curly dark hair and dark clothing.

Anyone who has any information that could help the investigation is urged to call Kent Police on 01795 419119, quoting reference 46/220962/23.
