The Shepway Singers warmed up the crowd with their carols, singing outside the Town Hall and then moving to the Creative Quarter, where the magic happened.

Alistair Upton, CEO of Creative Folkestone, welcomed everyone and introduced Kim-Joy, the star baker from the Great British Bake-Off TV show. He said that Folkestone was the only town in the world to have its book festival and creative lights switched on by an author.

Kim-Joy, wearing a colourful coat, thanked everyone for coming and said she was honoured to be part of the event. She then led the countdown to the Lights Switch On, which lit up the Old High Street with dazzling colours and shapes.

After the lights, Kim-Joy headed to the opening event of the book festival, while others enjoyed the Old High Street shops and cafes, and the snow blower at the top of the street added a touch of winter wonderland.
