Scott was in possession of a knife and stabbed the victim four times causing cuts to his face and arm. Bystanders gave first-aid and the injured man was taken to hospital for treatment to his wounds.

Police arrived at the scene and security staff identified Scott as the offender, and provided a CCTV image to assist in the search.

Scott was located by patrols in Pudding Lane and the knife he had used in the assault retrieved from where he had discarded it in Earl Street.

He was taken into custody and charged.

Scott, from Reading, Berkshire later pleaded guilty to wounding at Maidstone Crown Court.

Jailed

On Thursday 2 November, the 24-year-old was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment.

Detective Constable Kim Bashford, of Maidstone CID, said: ‘A young man who was enjoying a night out with friends suffered injuries after coming into contact with a man who had deliberately armed himself with a knife. It is only by chance the victim did not suffer fatal wounds and I would like to commend those who gave first-aid until paramedics arrived at the scene.
‘Patrols were greatly assisted by security staff who ensured the violent criminal who inflicted the injuries was swiftly detained and ultimately brought to justice. He is now serving a prison sentence and those who consider carrying bladed weapons should be left in no doubt that they are likely to suffer the same consequences.’
