A suspect has been charged following allegations a man was beaten and subjected to racist abuse in Maidstone. 

The victim suffered head injuries after the incident in Union Street, which happened at around 11.30pm on 1 April 2023.

It is reported he had been walking with friends when the assault happened. The suspect is alleged to have shouted racist abuse at the victim, before striking him with what was described as a large tree branch.

Charged

A man aged 33, from Maidstone was arrested on 27 April and later bailed, pending the outcome of further enquiries.

On Tuesday 3 October, he was charged with two counts of assault, one of which was racially aggravated.

The suspect is bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Friday 24 November.
