A suspected burglar has been charged with a series of break-ins on the Medway City Estate.

Officers have been investigating allegations several small businesses located within Box City, including a barber shop, hair salon, and sandwich bar were targeted in the space of just a few hours. The burglaries are reported to have happened overnight, between 22 and 23 August 2023, when it is alleged cash was stolen as well as items including a laptop and mobile phone.

On Saturday 2 September, an investigation by the Medway Victim Based Crime Team led to the arrest of a man aged 62 from Gillingham who was charged with eight counts of burglary which included a separate break-in on 28 August, at a warehouse on the Gillingham Business Park.

The suspect appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4 September and pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He was remanded in custody until a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court, on 2 October.
