A paraglider who was injured on the beach at Bishopstone, near Herne Bay, was rescued by Whitstable Lifeboat and airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London on Monday morning.
The Whitstable Atlantic 85 RNLI Lifeboat Lewisco was launched at 10.42 am and reached the scene where a crew member joined a paramedic to help the casualty, a 60-year-old man with back injuries. The location of the incident, at the base of the cliff, made it difficult to access by land.
At 11.39 am, the casualty was carried to the lifeboat by crew members and the Coastguard Rescue Team, The lifeboat then proceeded to Herne Bay Harbour where the casualty was handed over to ambulance personnel.
The injured paraglider was later flown to King’s College Hospital in London by Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS).
