A fatal crash involving a motor-tricycle and a car near Canterbury has led to the arrest and charge of a man who allegedly fled the incident.

The collision happened on Saturday 26 August 2023, around 12:55pm, on the A2050 near Harbledown.

A blue Mazda collided with a trike at the junction near Faulkner’s Lane. The trike was heading towards the A2 from Canterbury.

The rider of the trike, a man in his 60s, died at the scene.

Officers from Kent Police and paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service arrived at the incident.

Charged

The driver of the Mazda, a 44-year-old man, of Gate Hill, Dunkirk, was arrested on Sunday 27 August and charged with four offences.

They are:

  • causing death by dangerous driving
  • taking a vehicle without consent
  • failing to stop after an accident
  • failing to report an accident.

He was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 30 August.
