By Ray Duff – On Tuesday evening a large crowd, old and young, gathered on the Sunny Sands, Folkestone to hold a vigil in memory of the recent deaths of Afghan asylum-seekers in the Channel, and remembering those lost in the Mediterranean.

The gathering featured speeches from local refugee support groups, activists and people who wished to share their thoughts about the need for safe routes for refugees, as well as opposing what they felt were racist hate comments in the media and online.
The vigil ended with a minutes silence and the laying of flowers for those who died.
