Police are appealing for five people who may have witnessed an unsuccessful robbery in Margate to come forward.

The incident happened on Tuesday 25 July 2023, at around 9.30pm, when a man snatched a bag from a car in Station Road.

The car driver tried to escape and hit several parked cars before bystanders intervened and retrieved the bag.

The robber then fled in a silver Mercedes, driven by an accomplice.

He is described as Eastern European, about 5ft 2ins tall, with short grey hair and a denim jacket. He may have injured his ankle during the robbery.

The five potential witnesses are:

  • A man on a bicycle, wearing a blue jacket and light trousers, heading towards Westbook.
  • A driver of a blue BMW, who passed by the scene at the time of the robbery.
  • Three pedestrians walking towards Margate together: a dark-haired man in black clothes; a woman in a blue skirt, white top and cardigan; and a man in dark clothes, grey jacket and green cap.

Detective Inspector John Smith from Margate CID said: “We are keen to speak to these five people as they may have vital information that could help us identify the suspects and bring them to justice. We urge them to contact us as soon as possible.”
