Police are asking people in Tenterden to be vigilant and secure their doors after two properties were targeted by a would-be burglar.

The suspect reportedly jumped over the fence of a home in Woodchurch Road and tried to open the door around 11.45pm on Sunday 30 July 2023. He failed to get in and left the scene.

Five minutes later, he allegedly tried to break into another house in Vineys Gardens, but was also unsuccessful.

Detectives are investigating the two attempted burglaries and are appealing for anyone with information to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/13713/23.

You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or complete the online form on their website.

Staying safe:

•         Make sure external doors and windows are kept locked at night and during the day when you are not in the vicinity.

•         Consider fitting extra security measures such as spy holes, door chains, door locks, security lighting and intruder alarms.

•         Install your own CCTV covering the front and back of your property and keep it maintained to ensure it gives a clear picture.

•         Keep gates, boundaries and sheds secure.
