The ongoing campaign to protect Maidstone businesses from crime and keep shoppers safe has continued with the arrest of two suspected shoplifters.

On Tuesday 25 July 2023, a man and a woman went to Morrisons in St Saviours Road, where they are reported to have concealed groceries valued at almost £120.

After attempting to intervene, members of staff were allegedly threatened and one employee assaulted, before the suspects left the premises.

Officers from the Maidstone Neighbourhood Task Force, working with the West Kent Victim Based Crime Team, completed enquiries into the incident and on the following day arrested two people.

A woman aged 35 from Maidstone and a man aged 49, of no fixed address, were both later charged with theft. The woman was also charged with assault and a public order offence.

The pair were both bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 25 September.
