Police have arrested five teenagers who allegedly stole a moped and other items from vehicles in Thanet in the early hours of Monday 24 July 2023.

According to Kent Police, they received reports of people tampering with car doors in Botany Road, Margate, at around 3.20am. Some of the items reported missing from the vehicles included sunglasses and mobile phones. A moped was also reported stolen from a driveway around the same time and was later found damaged by fire.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and checked the CCTV footage. They then spotted one suspect in Northdown Road and four others in Palm Bay Avenue, matching the descriptions given by the witnesses.

The police recovered the sunglasses and mobile phones and arrested five boys aged between 13 and 17 on suspicion of vehicle theft and arson. A 17-year-old boy from Canterbury was also suspected of stealing from vehicles and a 13-year-old boy from Ramsgate was found with suspected ketamine.
