A 20-year-old man was arrested by Kent Police after reports of a moped being ridden recklessly on Herne Bay seafront.

He allegedly knocked a witness’s phone from their hand while they were filming him.

The incident occurred on Central Parade at around 11am on Saturday 8 July 2023.

Police have been carrying out enquiries to identify and locate the person responsible, and on Tuesday 18 July they arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of attempted criminal damage, taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, and possession of cannabis.

He was later further arrested for causing criminal damage to a custody cell.

The man was interviewed and released on bail with conditions, pending further enquiries.

Key focus

Inspector Paul Stoner of Canterbury Community Safety Unit said: ‘Tackling antisocial behaviour is one of the key focuses of Kent Police’s ongoing Safer Summer initiative as we know the damaging effect issues such as nuisance riding can have on law-abiding residents.

‘We investigate all incidents reported to us and take proportionate action to address the concerns raised, which in certain cases will result in us making arrests and placing people before the courts.‘

Anyone who wishes to report antisocial behaviour in their area can do so online at this link. Always dial 999 in an emergency.’
