Two people on a 23-foot yacht were rescued by the Sheerness lifeboat volunteers on Saturday 15 July, after their vessel drifted onto the rocks at Garrison Point on the Isle of Sheppey.

The UK Coastguard alerted the Sheerness inshore lifeboat ‘Buster’ and the all-weather lifeboat ‘Judith Copping Joyce’ at 5.15pm, and they quickly reached the scene in poor weather conditions.

The inshore lifeboat attached a towline to the yacht and pulled it away from the rocks by 5.30pm, while the all-weather lifeboat followed them to lower Camber in Sheerness docks, where they arrived at 6.05pm.

The yacht crew, who had sailed from Lower Halstow earlier that day, were unhurt and taken ashore. They said they had tried to return to their destination, but the strong winds had pushed them off course and towards the rocks.
