Benenden’s New Concert Hall and Music School by Hollaway Studio

Hollaway Studio, a visionary architecture practice, has crafted a stunning new music school and concert hall that sounds as good as it looks.

The project, located at Benenden School, Kent, UK, it has been shortlisted for the prestigious South East BIID Interior Design Awards.

The Centenary Buildings, shaped like musical instruments, has a 750-seat concert hall with superb acoustics, a 150-seat recital hall, cutting-edge digital media suites, and over 20 practice and rehearsal rooms. The project celebrates the power of music and culture for the students and the local community.

The Centenary Buildings are connected by a dazzling double-height atrium and a bridge, and blend seamlessly with the existing academic buildings and the landscape.

Guy Hollaway, Principal Partner at Hollaway Studio, says “Centenary Hall is like a musical instrument in its own right. To create a mini Glyndebourne in this setting is an amazing achievement of design and acoustic engineering and truly shows how important music is as part of an education.”

The project will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges in June/July/August/September, and the winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony on 12th October 2023 at Drapers’ Hall, London.

Tickets went on sale in June.
