A 35-year-old man from Chatham, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following a serious assault in the town’s High Street, on Thursday 22 June 2023.

The incident happened at its junction with Church Street at around 6pm after the victim was reported to have been punched during an altercation with another man.

Victim remains in hospital

The victim, a man in his 40s, sustained head injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains.

Following enquiries by beat officers from the Medway Community Safety Unit and officers from Medway CID department, the 35-year-old man was arrested and later charged.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 June 2023 where he was remanded on conditional bail. He is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 24 July.
