A suspected shoplifter has been charged with 19 offences following multiple thefts in Dover.
Shops in the High Street and nearby area were targeted on Tuesday 13 June 2023 where items including food and alcohol were reported stolen. Following the incidents a man was arrested.
On Wednesday 14 June, a 29-year-old man of no fixed address, was charged with:
• Five counts of theft from shops in Dover, which included alcohol, food and a portable radio. One offence was on 12 June.
• Criminal damage to a police cell van in Folkestone
• Racially aggravated threats towards an officer
• Threats to kill.
In a separate case, he also faces a further 11 charges from incidents that took place on 5 January 2023:
• Three counts of theft from shops in Dover, which included alcohol, food and coffee. One offence was on 4 January.
• Three counts of racially aggravated harassment towards a person in Dover
• Four counts of using threatening behaviour towards a person in Dover with intent to cause fear
• Criminal damage where the door of a police van was damaged.
The man has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 25 August 2023.
The offences are being investigated by Dover’s Victim Based Crime Team (VBCT), which is focused on targeting prolific and repeat offenders and bringing individuals to justice.
