A man in his 50s was seriously injured after being punched and falling to the ground in a riverside area near Bishops Way and the Archbishop’s Palace.

The assault occurred around 6.30pm on Tuesday 13 June 2023. Police and paramedics attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital with head and arm injuries.

Police arrested a suspect later that day and he was held in custody.

PC Lucy Basson, who is leading the investigation, said: ‘We believe there were several people nearby when the attack happened, and some of them may have recorded it on their phones. We urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to get in touch with us.’

A 25-year-old man from Maidstone has been charged with wounding. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 14 June and was bailed to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 15 July.
