A pair of brazen burglars who targeted a rural property in Sutton Valence, near Maidstone, in broad daylight have been sentenced.

On 8 June 2022, Tyler Booth and Jasmine Wilson went to a house in Chartway Street and forced their way into a utility room while the occupant was away from home.

Inside, they stole a chainsaw, a lawn mower, hedge trimmer from a shed and a quantity of fuel, before they walked away from the scene.

The victim reported the break-in on their return and investigators from the Kent Crime Squad examined CCTV in the area.

Officers identified Booth and Wilson, both of no fixed address, from footage near the scene. They were arrested on 4 July 2022 and charged with burglary.

Wilson pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court on 11 November 2022 and the 26-year-old was sentenced to a two-year community order and 140 hours unpaid work.

Booth, aged 25, also pleaded guilty at the same court and on Thursday 15 June 2023 he was sentenced to a total of three years and four months in prison.

Devon

As well as being sentenced for the burglary, Booth was additionally sentenced for driving offences which happened in Devon in July 2022.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Billie-Louise Mills said: ‘These two criminals are opportunists who saw a chance to plunder someone else’s property while the residents were away.

‘They caused considerable damage gaining access to the premises and stole expensive tools that somebody else had worked hard to afford to purchase. Booth is now, quite rightly serving a prison sentence.’
