Thanks to the Medway Council sports team and support from colleagues at Medway Norse the Strand lido reopened on 15 June following an ongoing number of incidents of vandalism and criminal damage.

The Strand lido suffered damage over recent weeks resulting in its closure. Even a day before the reopening (14 June), further damage was caused.

Undaunted the council is determined not to let the minority spoil it for the rest, and teams pulled together and started clearing up early on Thursday morning to make sure Medway’s only lido is safe and ready for customers hoping to enjoy the summer sun at the outdoor pool.

The Strand lido is a much-loved family attraction next to the River Medway in Gillingham. So in the words of Stanley Holloway’s popular British music hall song, ‘Let’s all go down The Strand’ (Have a banana!).

Causing intentional damage and vandalism is a criminal offence. It could also be dangerous to enter cold water without appropriate supervision.

Appeal

Anyone with information about the suspects and incident on Wednesday, 14 June, is asked to report it to Kent Police by calling 01634 792209 and quoting reference 14-1772.
