Dover & Deal MP Natalie Elphicke has welcomed the news that more than 22,300 pensioners across Dover, Deal and the villages will receive a 10% increase in their Basic State Pension from this month.

Natalie Elphicke MP said: “Looking after older people in our community is so important. I’ve fought hard to protect the triple lock* – ensuring that pensioners receive a record 10% pensions increase, speaking up on this issue to the Chancellor and other Ministers. It’s a welcome pension boost for more than 22,000 pensioners across our Dover & Deal community.”

Commenting, Pensions Minister, Laura Trott said: “The effect of rising prices has been particularly challenging for the most vulnerable pensioners many of whom live on fixed incomes.

“That is why the Conservative Government has delivered on our commitment to protect the Triple Lock, giving 12.5 million pensioners an inflationary increase in their pension payments of 10.1 per cent from April.”

*Triple Lock

The triple lock is a system of three measures that decide how much the state pension will rise each year.

The three-way guarantee was that each year, the state pension would increase by the greatest of the following three measures:

  • Average earnings
  • Prices, as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI)
  • 2.5 per cent
