At around 1am on Friday 27 January 2023, a man was walking in an alleyway leading to a railway bridge from Grange Road, when it is alleged he was assaulted by three men.

The victim, a man in his 40s, suffered an injury consistent with a stab wound.

It is alleged the suspects, who are described as being black, stole a quantity of cash before running from the scene towards the town centre. The victim made his way to Pelham Road where he was treated by paramedics. He was then taken to a London hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Detective Inspector Danielle Driscoll said: ‘An investigation is underway into the circumstances of the incident and enquiries are being completed by officers in the area.

‘We are urging witnesses or anybody with information to call our appeal line. Motorists with dashcam and residents with private CCTV are also asked to check for footage that may assist.’
