Traffic checks in Folkestone have resulted in one person being arrested for suspected drug-driving and a further ten motorists reported for offences.
During the afternoon of Friday 20 January 2023, a total of 36 vehicles were stopped during the operation in Cheriton Road, Tram Road and Sandgate Hill.
Seven people were reported for seatbelt offences while others were reported for using a mobile phone at the wheel and speeding. One vehicle was found to be uninsured, resulting in the driving being reported and the car seized.
Drugs
Officers from Folkestone Community Policing Team, town centre officers and the Kent Special Constabulary also searched two cars for suspected drugs.
An 18-year-old man from Folkestone was arrested in Tram Road on suspicion of drug-driving. He was later released on bail until 20 April pending further enquiries. Two people also received community resolutions for possessing cannabis.
Advice was issued to 23 motorists about a range of issues including vehicle maintenance and responsible driving.

‘We are committed to keeping our roads as safe as possible and operations such as this help to reinforce the need to play your part, keep your vehicle roadworthy and make sure your full focus is on the road.’
