A stinger device has been used to stop and arrest a disqualified driver who attempted to ram a police car during a chase through Medway.

Daniel Mills, 38, has now been convicted of a string of driving offences, just two days after he led officers on an 18-minute pursuit in the Medway Towns and Walderslade.

Reverse rammed

At around 9.54pm on Sunday 15 January 2023, patrolling officers identified an uninsured Ford Transit and began pursuit when it failed to stop. Throughout the chase, the suspect slammed on the breaks numerous times in an attempt to reverse ram the police car.

Kent Police deployed a stinger device which brought the vehicle to a stop on a grass verge in Capstone Road.

Charged

Mills, from Chatham was arrested and charged the following day with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. He was also charged with failing to stop.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 17 January 2023, where he pleaded guilty. He will return to Maidstone Crown Court for sentencing at a date to be confirmed.
