Kent Fire and Rescue Service Animal Rescue Unit was called to help rescue a dog that had got stuck in a water pipe in a dyke near Kemsdale Road between Faversham and Whitstable at 6.00pm on 30 December.

Crews wearing water safety equipment and working after darkness had fallen, found the mutt sitting precariously on a concrete ledge, next to flowing water.

The rescue team used a dog pole to prevent the animal falling into the water and a sheet to secure the pooch as they lifted him to safety and handed the animal to his relieved owners.
