By Ray Duff… Folkestone Library on Grace Hill is to close from today until further notice after Kent Council has reported the forced closure is due to urgent Health and Safety reasons.

The building will be assessed as to how the damage can be fixed.

An update is expected by the end of January 2023.

The building suffered previous problems with water leaks and was recently closed due to water ingress in various parts of the late 19th Century building. Following work, and the subsequent attempts to fix the issues, they appear to persist or new leaks have appeared.

Library users are being referred to other libraries in the area, including Cheriton, Wood Avenue, Hythe and Lyminge, for the foreseeable future.

KCC has apologised for the inconvenience this will cause but the closure is for the safety of the staff and library users.
