Stark fencing along the coast road between Hythe and Seabrook

A report has been published regarding an individual Leader decision about the Princes Parade development in Hythe.

It sets out the up-to-date financial considerations surrounding the project against the context of council finances and the turmoil in the energy and financial markets.

Pausing current spending

The report recommends pausing current spending on the project pending further officer recommendations on how to proceed.

The decision will be taken on 31 October 2022 and published the following day.

Council must be prudent

Leader Cllr David Monk said: “It is disappointing that we have a recommendation that there should be a pause in spending on the development.

“However, at this time of uncertainty in the financial and energy markets and the potential effects on Princes Parade it is right that I should be asked to consider such a pause whilst we consider the ramifications.

“As a council we must be prudent in our stewardship of public resource and take a breathing space to consider the options available to us.”
