Canterbury police probe death of man discovered in shallows of river

Detectives are appealing for information following the death of a man in Canterbury.

Kent Police was called at around 12pm on Sunday 16 October 2022 after a person was found lying unresponsive in a shallow section of the Great Stour river behind River Bend Close.

Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service but the man, who has since been identified as being local and in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s next of kin has been notified.

An investigation is being carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

Detectives would particularly like to speak to anyone who was in the area between 3pm and 6pm the previous day, Saturday 15 October, and saw two men together.
