The Romney Marsh Community Hub has been awarded Care Charity of the Year – in the Kent Charity Awards 2022.

The awards, which ‘showcase the hard work and perseverance that charities and voluntary groups undertake to make the lives of others better’ were presented at a ceremony on Thursday 8 September.

The Hub’s category – Care Sector – was for charities that provide essential care and support to individuals in Kent and was hotly contested by charities from across the county.

In assessing the categories, the judges took into consideration highlights and achievements, as well as challenges faced by the Hub during and post-pandemic.

Jon Wilson BEM is the Hub’s CEO: ‘Just before the pandemic hit, I was interviewed on the local evening news about potential closure due to funding shortfalls. As COVID took hold, we reacted quickly and transformed the Hub into a resource to support those in need in the community throughout the pandemic.

Post-COVID, the Hub is now a very different place. We have gradually reopened and introduced new services and activities for people over 50 living in the community, taking care to reopen in a way that our people feel safe. Moreover, we have secured funding, refocused our activities, rebranded and become an organisation that the people of Romney Marsh cherish. This is the result of very hard work from staff, volunteers and stakeholders – and this award is testament to everyone involved.’
