Detectives investigating the rape of a woman near Folkestone have charged a man.

A 19-year-old woman reported she was the victim of a serious sexual assault in a layby in Beachborough, near the A20, during the early hours of Sunday 4 September 2022.

The Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate commenced an investigation and, following enquiries, a man was arrested on the morning of Monday 5 September.

Peter Wrotchford, from Ashley Avenue, Folkestone, was later charged with rape and three sexual assault offences.

The 46-year-old appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 7 September and was remanded in custody to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 10 October.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have information regarding the incident but has not yet spoken to police.

In particular they would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard a woman talking to the driver of a white vehicle in Tram Road, Folkestone at about 4am on Sunday 4 September.
